Dependent upon any restrictions set forth by the Sacramento Metro Air Quality Management District and fire activity, this burn will commence from 9:00 A.M. until approximately 3:00 P.M. on Friday, August 14, 2020. Minimal smoke may be visible in the area.
If the burning conditions become unfavorable for a safe, controlled burn, operations will be immediately stopped. As with all CAL FIRE controlled burns, this project will be evaluated the day of the burn utilizing a Go/No/Go checklist that is based on weather, resource availability and incident activity. If conditions don’t meet safety standards, the burn will be cancelled.
The purpose of this burn is to introduce new firefighter, trainees to live fire situations while learning safe, effective fire suppression techniques. It is imperative that these trainees are provided with relevant training opportunities prior to allowing them to fight actual wildland fires.
Although the forecast for August 14th is hot, the wind is expected to remain light and within favorable range for a safe training with minimal impact from smoke. The holding lines and secondary lines of the burn area have been cleared to bare, minimal soil to keep fire within the prescribed boundaries. Less than 30 acres is expected to be
needed to expose each of the 30 firefighter trainees to live fire conditions.
