March is National Nutrition Month!

March is  National Nutrition Month!  As part of this campaign, the American Society for Nutrition invites the public to focus on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. National Nutrition Month 2020 is themed "Eat Right, Bite by Bite" and the overall message is that quality nutrition isn't restrictive, but that small changes to diet can have a cumulative effect on health over time. Every healthy nutritional choice is a choice in the right direction!

Classic Nursery Rhyme of the Month

Irish Lullaby

Singing nursery rhymes together with your babies, toddlers and preschoolers is a great way to help with language development. The rhythm and repetition of the words help children to recognize and reuse the words. This rhyme is a traditional Irish lullaby, written in 1913. To hear an audio example of how to sing this lullaby, click here...

Toora, loora, loora,
Toora, loora, li,
Toora, loora, loora,
Hush now don't you cry,
Toora, loora, loora,
Toora, loora, li,
Toora, loora, loora,
It's an Irish Lullaby.

Over in Killarney, many years ago,
My mother sang this song to me,
In tones so sweet and low.
Just a simple little ditty,
In her good old Irish way,
And I'd give the world if I could hear her
Sing that song this day.

Singin'
Toora, loora, loora,
Toora, loora, li,
Toora, loora, loora,
Hush now don't you cry,
Toora, loora, loora,
Toora, loora, li,
Toora, loora, loora,
It's an Irish Lullaby.

Oft' in dreams I wander, to that cot again,
I feel her arms a-huggin' me,
As when she held me then,
And I hear her voice a-humming to me,
As in days of yore,
When she would rock me fast asleep,
Outside the cabin door.

Repeat Chorus.

Provider Profile

Hi, I'm  Tiana Mohr! I always knew I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little girl. I would line my stuffed animals up and pretend to be teaching them. Flash forward to my junior year of high school and I enrolled in an Early Childhood Education class. That's when I knew that I wanted to work with children. During my senior year at Argonaut High School, I took Elementary Education, where two class periods were spent being a TA for a kindergarten class at Jackson Elementary. I graduated June of 2006 from Argonaut and two months later I was hired by Amador County Unified School District as an Instructional Assistant at Plymouth Elementary. This is when the light bulb went off that I for sure wanted to become a teacher. I also had enrolled for the Fall 2006 Semester at Cosumnes River College in ECE 314: Child Family Community and I fell in love with that class.

Two years later I went to work at Amador Cooperative Preschool as an Assistant Teacher to JoAnn Sprenkel. While continuing to pursue ECE classes, I then decided that young children birth-5 is where I should be. I started working for ATCAA Jackson Early Head Start in June of 2010 when they first opened, as a Center Assistant. I worked my way up from Center Assistant to Teacher. I graduated from Cosumnes River College with my AA degree in ECE in May of 2014. Moving forward to June of 2018, I became the Lead Center Teacher for Ione Early Head Start. Working with infants and toddlers has become my passion. Being there alongside them as they reach and develop those milestones is the best feeling ever. This is my second year participating in the Quality for Kids program. They help by providing trainings and workshops that benefit my field, and tools and resources that I can use to bring back to my program. They also helped support me by providing me with a stipend towards obtaining the two ECE Administration classes I need in order to be the best
supervisor for my program and staff.

How can you give kids the best start in life?

... by taking your children to well-child and dental check ups and also,
by doing an "ASQ."

The Ages & Stages Questionnaires (ASQ) is a way to make sure your child is "on track." The screening tools are designed  to be completed by parents or primary caregivers, that encourage parent-caregiver involvement.

Each questionnaire can be completed in 10-20 minutes, and is divided into five areas: Communication, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving, and  Personal-Social.

The benefit for all children and families is so that parents/caregivers know which areas they can focus on at home with their children.

For more information, please call First 5 Amador at 257-1092
