Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash
"Texicali Troubadour" CD Release Party!
Saturday, November 19th
5:30 door ~ $15 cash only

Described by Rolling Stone as "pure Americana heart and soul", The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash are the voice and vision of songwriter Mark Stuart. Since forming the band in 1995, he's performed with most every major artist in the Country and Americana music community. Stuart was personally given permission to use the band's name by Johnny Cash himself. He was also honored by the Man in Black with an invitation to record songs at Cash's own home in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Two other iconic music legends, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard, were also early believers who were instrumental in helping Stuart get his start.
With the release of their critically acclaimed debut CD "Walk Alone" in 1999, the Bastard Sons quickly proved they were no novelty act. With strong songwriting and great musicianship, the Sons' quickly jumped to the forefront of the growing Alternative Country scene. No stranger to the road, their constant touring and hard work have built the band a loyal grass roots following both in the States and abroad. Their music has been featured in film, television, and compilation CDs around the world.
Whether performing in front of thousands at a festival in the US or Europe, or playing all night in a Texas dance hall, for Stuart it’s all about respect. "The Bastard Sons never were, and never will be, a Johnny Cash tribute band. It's always been about honoring the musical ideals of our heroes, and paying respect to the originality, integrity, and independence that made those artists who they are. Our goal was always to find our own road, and to continue to keep the sounds and traditions of American Roots Music alive."
Stuart and the Bastard Sons have released five outstanding CDs: Walk AloneDistance BetweenMile MarkersBend in the RoadNew Old Story, and their latest, Texicali Troubadour.

Xander Hitzig
Friday, November 15th
5:30 door ~ $13 cash only

Almost solely self taught,  play's fiddle, guitar, and tenor banjo; using the music of his inspirations as his guide. And it is apparent to anyone who hears his songs today, the influence of John Hartford, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Waits, and John Prine all resound in a foot-tapping, heart awakening sound that draws crowds all over the United States. Whether he is playing in sold out venues, or simply for heart on side streets, Xander Hitzig has a life and a charisma that is hard to find today in modern music. Xander has been touring across the U.S. for the past ten years with multiple bands, most notably the BrownChicken BrownCow Stringband and the Hitzig Brothers, and has recently been producing music from his own solo endeavors.
Having played alongside like artists such as Hutch Hutchinson, David Nelson, The Shook Twins, Vince Herman, Charles Neville, John Craigie, and Eric McFadden, Hitzig’s musical circle grows incessantly.
He’ll make you move and sing along to words you don’t know yet, and perhaps even inspire you to give it all up and move to the mountains of West Virginia, in search of the life that Xander Hitzig’s music can’t help but emanate.

Miss Lonely Hearts, started in the central valley of CA, is a band that lays down hard California Outlaw Country. Their sound was created out of a deep authentic understanding and appreciation of the roots country music that evolved in this nation. Their lead singer/songwriter was introduced to traditional country at a very young age and perfected his gut bucket vocal stylings singing George Jones and Hank Sr. tunes on the streets for change. At the same time their percussionist was living in New Orleans learning to play on a homemade suitcase drumkit. Their Upright bassist is the energy core of the band and gets every man in the crowd dancing and every girl in the crowd swooning. Every song is a dark, drunken, broken hearted hymn set to an unavoidably danceable tempo and intended to drive a crowd to a near fever pitch.

The Coffis Brothers & The Mountain Men are a rootsy rock n’ roll band born and raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Influenced by those early surroundings, songwriters Jamie and Kellen Coffis’ blend of folk, blues, R&B and straight-ahead rock is evidence an upbringing spent listening to all of the right records from Tom Petty, Neil Young, and The Beatles.
On their third full-length album, Roll With It, The Coffis Brothers put that rock into overdrive, looking ahead to the good things coming and suffering no fools. First single “You Ain’t Got the Heart” is a barn burner and a fan favorite, having already been part of the band’s live set for a couple of years. “There’s a little bit of that sense of angst and that sort of ‘I don’t need this’ attitude,” says Kellen Coffis, “but don’t overthink this one.”
Not that there isn’t plenty to think about on Roll With It. Tracks like “Bad Luck” and “Better Days” reflect on how to live with and learn from rough times, while “You and Me” is a testament to how people can make it through these things together. But on every song, The Coffis Brothers & the Mountain Men stay true to a rock sound that draws from Southern grit and California hills.
Roll With It was recorded on analog tape over a week at Barefoot Studios in Hollywood with producer Andy Zenczak and engineer Cian Riordan. The band’s near-constant touring throughout California and elsewhere has earned them not only devoted fans, but lots of critical praise as well:
“The Coffis Brothers & the Mountain Men have developed a sound that has an easy rock vibe that’s actually hip.” – San Francisco Chronicle
“The Coffis Brothers mix a blend of folk, country and rock with the intensity of personal lyrics into a gritty and often tender harmony of sound… a show that delivers one part Avett Brothers and one part early Neil Young for a full night of dancing and fun.” – Santa Cruz Weekly
Jamie and Kellen are joined by Kyle Poppen on lead guitar, Aidan Collins on bass and Sam Kellerman on drums. Their debut self titled full-length album was released in 2011 and was followed by 2012’s Waiting For You EP and 2014’s Wrong Side of the Road.
