JACKSON, CA - Hospice of Amador & Calaveras
hosted their 20th Annual “Celebrate Life” Art Auction on Friday, September 20.
Kicking off just before sunset at the picturesque Karmère Winery and Vineyards,
this year’s signature event set a fundraising record for the agency of $66,000!
The perfect fall evening began with the sounds of local
jazz and blues aficionado Herb Boxhorn, which set the mood as guests strolled
the lawn, dined on appetizers, and perused original artwork donated by talented
local artists, which ranged from metal art and artisan jewelry to original
photographs and paintings. A myriad of donated drawing prizes from individuals,
local businesses, and community partners were on display, keeping everyone in
anticipation of the night’s highlight—the live auction!
After a gourmet tableside dinner service provided by The
National Hotel & Bistro49, wines from Karmère, and beer from Amador
Brewery, guests were treated to the auctioneering talents of Frank Halvorson,
with art narration by Craig Conrardy. This year’s top bid went for the “Spanish
Paella Dinner Experience for 20,” generously donated by Volcano Union Inn +
Pub. The evening was topped off again with the “Last One Standing” appeal.
Multi-year “winner” Doreen Lukowicz helped bring the total of that activity to
over $17,000.
Like every year, monies raised this year go toward
essential core hospice services and programs to the two-county area served by
the agency. Executive Director Ariane Debien said, “I am once again astonished
and humbled by the support for Hospice of Amador & Calaveras that was
demonstrated at this event. The tremendous generosity shown by our community is
overwhelming.”
More than 40 volunteers, dozens of generous donations and
several major sponsorships from the following community organizations made the
event possible: Karmère Winery & Vineyard; Sutter Amador Hospital; Jackson
Rancheria Casino Resort; American Legion Ambulance Service; Horizon Oxygen
& Medical Equipment; and Mark Twain Medical Center.
Hospice of Amador & Calaveras has been serving the
community continuously since 1982, and in the 36 years of operation, has never
turned away a patient for end-of-life services because of inability to pay. For
