Phase 2 of Lyon Ranch Training Burn Camino – The Amador- El Dorado Unit of CAL FIRE will be starting Phase 2 of the prescribed live training burn on Lyon Ranch in the community of Pilot Hill on Thursday.
Dependent upon any restrictions set forth by El Dorado County Air Quality Management District and favorable fire weather conditions, this burn will start on Thursday, July 11th from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on approximately 87 acres East of and adjacent to Hwy 49 and South of Meadow Acres. An additional 12 acres will be burned North of Blue Tent Creek within Lyon Ranch. Smoke may be visible in the area.
The purpose of the burn is to allow firefighters from CAL FIRE along with El Dorado County Fire Protection District, Garden Valley Fire Protection District and the U.S. Forest Service to train together in a controlled fire environment for preparation of fire season while reducing the spread of noxious weeds, non-native grasses and other fuels. These burns will reduce the chance of catastrophic wildfire in nearby communities.
