Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of your faithful and
kindle in the us the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and we shall be created
and you shall renew the face of the earth.
The month of June is upon us and we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost on the 9th, with Trinity Sunday (and the Trinity picnic) the next weekend. Pentecost is more than just remembering that the Spirit came to the church some 2000 years ago. It is more than singing "Happy Birthday" to the church. It is an invitation for spiritual renewal in our own lives - daily. It is an invitation for each of us to look at ongoing spiritual formation in our own lives. It is an invitation for our whole community at Trinity Church to look for the movement of the Spirit in our common life and our witness in Amador County.
The first week of June will find five members of the vestry and me at the Bishop's Ranch in Healdsburg CA for the diocesan College of Congregational Development. This program is intended to help spur us into asking questions about who we are and where we see our church community going during the next few years. It is all about the work of the Holy Spirit in our midst, along with practical lessons in church history, theology, and identity. Obviously, there will be much more to say about this after it has happened.
After Pentecost, we enter into a long season that is often called Ordinary Time. One of the things that I have learned about Ordinary Time from past years is that Extra-ordinary things can happen in the midst of the Ordinary, if we but pay attention. Many seemingly routine matters can provide material for spiritual growth when we pay attention. The comings and goings of life can take on new meaning as we pay attention.
We say farewell to Deena Holland who has provided our music for the past eighteen months or so. It appears that we have another musician to help us on our spiritual journey, but as with all new relationships, it will take time to develop relationships. Others will be moving households, locally or to new towns. Children and grandchildren will take up time and energy with the daily-ness of life. And, bidden or unbidden, God will be in the midst of it all.
May the Holy Spirit dance in our hearts as we gear up to celebrate both the ordinary and the extraordinary.

New Book Study Begins
You are all invited to join a new Cutting Edge book study beginning Monday, June 10th. We will be reading Meister Eckhart: A Mystic Warrior for Our Times, by Matthew Fox (2014). Fox is an engaging writer, and he brings Eckhart's ideas into focus by pairing him, one chapter at a time, with thinkers from other times and traditions. We see him aligned, for example, with Teihard de Chardin and Thomas Berry, Rabbi Heschel, Thich Nhat Hanh, Julian of Norwich, Marcus Borg, Carl Jung, Rumi and Hafiz, among many others. The book is available at amazon for $12-16. I am happy to order for anyone who'd like that help.
We will be moving our time slot on Mondays back to 5:15pm to accommodate working folks. It would be helpful if you'd let me know you plan to be involved. If you're not sure, drop by, take a look at someone's book, and see how the conversation feels to you.
Hope to see you there! Blessings,
