There are many advantages to living in or near a forested area of the foothills. However, these environments require care and maintenance to stay healthy. The UCCE Master Gardeners of Amador County will be offering a free Public Education class “Living in the Forest” on Saturday, June 15, 2019. This class will focus on how best to maintain and keep healthy the forested landscape around our homes, from natural vegetation to compatible plantings and appropriate fire-resistant landscaping. The class will include information on how to reduce future tree mortality; reforestation do’s and don’ts; information on when and how to water different plantings effectively; tips on thinning overcrowded vegetation, removing slash and maintaining defensible space; and planting the right tree in the right place. Handouts will be available. The class is free and open to the public. No reservations are required.
