Lockwood FPD Auxiliary: More than "just breakfast"...be fire safe! Sat May 18

Did you miss the April 30th Town Hall Fire Safety meeting? The same organizations and many more will be at our Pancake Breakfast this Saturday, May 18th from 8am to noon, rain or shine!

This year it's all about being fire safe. What can you do to harden your home against wildfire beyond creating a 100 foot defensible space? Lockwood has arranged for some home hardening vendors to be at the event with information on some options to consider, such as ember repelling vents, enclosed gutters, gel applications, water tanks, generators, and fire wise gardening.

The Ham Radio club will be there with info on emergency communications.

Have you checked your fire extinguisher(s) lately? If the arrow is in the yellow or red it needs to be recharged. Sierra Foothill Fire Extinguisher will be at the event from 10-12 and can recharge onsite (there is a fee for this service).

You will also be able to practice putting out a fire with a fire extinguisher - a good skill to have!

Fun for the kids! Every child in attendance will receive a free junior firefighter hat and a chance to use a firehose and get inside a fire engine.

The Boys Camp will participate again with their "Tool Out" demo that was very popular last year. Come see how the boys use their equipment to clear our community of dangerous brush.

We are updating our water source map so we will have a sign-up sheet for you to indicate if you have a water source on your property, such as a water tank, pool, spa or pond. Everyone signing up will receive a free blue reflector to post so firefighters know there is water on your property.

Come ask questions, find answers and eat a great breakfast. Start your day feeling safer. Hope to see you there!
