AmadorArts: Student Arts Showcase - May 7 & 8

Annual Student Arts Showcase to Shine This Year at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Parish

The popular annual AmadorArts Student Arts Showcase is Tuesday and Wednesday, May 7 and 8, from 2:30 to 6:00 pm each day. This is a free community event with complimentary refreshments and is the time to view a wildly creative cross-section of art created by local elementary school students, as well as from a junior high.  New this year, the location will be the St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Parish, 11361 Prospect Drive, Jackson, where there’s plenty of free parking. Also, two Spanish language translators will be present.

Each year AmadorArts brings in-depth standards-based instruction by professional artists into all of our local elementary schools. In the current school year, 2,200+ students participate in arts classes facilitated by the non-profit organization. Classes included: Kindergarten Color Wheel, 1st grade Adventures with George the Dot, 2nd grade Doodle Art, 3rd grade Matisse-inspired Paper Collage, 4th grade Watercolor Technique, 5th grade Chalk Pastel, 6th grade Chinese history and art, and Introduction to Art Pilot Program at Ione Junior High.  Each of the participating children has been invited and will receive a Certificate of Achievement.

Works created in other children arts studios will be on exhibit as well. Plus, doodling, collage and watercolor art created by young men from the Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp will also be up for viewing.

No matter the age, arts education not only enhances students’ understanding of the world around them, but it also gives them a sense of emotional satisfaction when they are involved in making art. They have control over the materials they use, making decisions about form, color, etc.  And, it brings joy.

This Arts in Education annual Program Finale gives the public a chance to see the positive results when the arts are in embedded in the studies of our youth. The director of the AIE Program is Sue Lagomarsino, and the curator of the Showcase is Nan Muzinich, both members of the AmadorArts Board of Directors. For more info, visit www.amadorarts.org or call 209-256-8166.
